In the two years since Offbeat Brewing Company first rolled-up its doors in an unassuming North San Diego County industrial complex, it has built a loyal, diverse, and decidedly local fan base – human and canine patrons alike – that keep coming back for signature beers with off-kilter names like Caticorn, Girafficopter, and Bear Arms Brown.
Brewmaster Tom Garcia, a veteran of Stone Brewing Company, and his wife, Offbeat Vice President Sarah Garcia, have also built a reputation for supporting the arts in their hometown. The Escondido brewery and tasting room also serves as a rotating gallery for local artists and for hosting fundraisers that benefit a diverse group of worthy causes from the Humane Society to San Diego’s military families.
The Offbeat team celebrated its second anniversary last weekend with customers who were happy to wait outside until the doors opened; it was a party full of food (in the form of customer favorite, Red Oven Pizza), live music from Mike McGill, and of course, plenty of expertly-crafted Offbeat Brewing Company beer.
The tap list, which included Girafficopter Pale Ale with Sage and Hareceratops Belgian Style Pale Ale, also featured the newest additions to Offbeat’s growing lineup. Its anniversary release, Rufus Oatmeal Stout (60 IBU, 6.9% ABV), debuted alongside a cask version with juniper and cinnamon. Tom Garcia’s recent collaboration with the U.K.’s Offbeat Brewery – because why beat ‘em when you can join ‘em? – was also available: 49 Double IPA dry-hopped with Chinook (90 IBU, 9% ABV).
Stop by Offbeat’s Escondido tasting room, or look for them during San Diego Beer Week at the Brewer’s Guild Festival on Saturday November 8 (and of course, check them out on Facebook).
A big congratulations to Offbeat Brewing Company on two years of crafting beer and building strong ties in the community – cheers!
