Dia de los Muertos. “The Day of the Dead.” A beautiful Mexican cultural celebration of family & friends who have passed on from this life into the next. With origins dating back as far as 3,000 years to Aztec festivals, Dia de los Muertos is a time when families gather to honor the memory of loved ones. They gather to pray, to celebrate, to build altars, to tell stories, to dance – all to encourage visits by the souls of those who have departed, so the souls will hear the prayers & comments of the living that are directed to them. Last Sunday, November 4th, I had the privilege of attending the traditional Dia de los Muertos family festival at the Bowers Museum here in our neighborhood of Santa Ana, California. It was a magical day – one that I couldn’t wait to share with the world through photos.
